Problem Statement

With the rise of social media and phones at every age, it is important to explore both the impacts on mentality and happiness as well as patterns in usage that can be used to support efforts to mitigate negative effects. However, while this project investigates these correlations, due to the fact that the dataset used is synthetic, the results of this analysis cannot be fully trusted.

Research Questions

Question 1

Does gender affect how much time is spent on instagram on average?

Question 2

Does age affect how much time is spent on instagram on average?

Question 3

Do people who spend more time on instagram report feeling more or less happy than those who spend less time?

Conclusion

The data supports that gender does not play a strong factor in how much time a person spends on instagram, but does show a strong corrolation between age and daily usage, suggesting the older the are, the less time you spend on instagram. It further claims that the more time spent on instagram, the less happy you feel. However, the data is very perfect with no outliers, which does not feel accurate to real world data. Given the fact the data is synthetic and was likely created with the purpose of reaching such conclusions, it is important to conduct further reaserch that does include real world data before establishing a correlation.
